Towers in the Snow
2023
Relief Printing
15.5” x 19”
This piece is about how people and location affect the way that architecture looks. For this, I portrayed St. Basil’s Cathedral which is located in Moscow, Russia. In Russia, there can be a lot of snow and the sky gets dark during the winter so you can imagine that the citizens and visitors can start to feel down. That is why Russian architecture uses bright colors and shapes because they help to keep everyone upbeat and happy. I thought that this was a great example to portray my idea that an objects design looks the way it does for specific reasons which is why I chose it for my project.

Copycat Architecture
2023
Charcoal
12” x 18”
This piece represents how people can have an influence on architecture. The ancient Romans copied most of their culture, including some of their architectural styles, from the Greeks. Although they expanded on some of their ideas, many of the concepts, like the use of pillars, remained the same. I have always liked learning about the ancient Romans because my history classes made them sound like such a powerful and wealthy group of people which is expressed in the style of their buildings. My artwork has helped me to appreciate both the structure and the details that Roman architecture possesses.
